The Syndic by Cyril M Kornbluth. - 'America in the 21st Century... the startiling story of a tomorrow with laws or morals.'
This $.25 cover price Bantam Book, first printing edition 1955, with a 1953 copyright, is in the 'full size' format (same dimensions as pretty much all paperbacks today).
The condition of this book is good plus but the cover art is really great, which is what makes this an item to have even if it has a few shortcomings.
It looks like Bantam really cut corners on the quality of the paper, so the tanning is worse than some I have seen. There seems to be a little discoloration on the upper right page corners. The top and bottom of the spine have lifted a bit from the pages, looks that perhaps the glue dried up, it's not peeling, just kind of fragile, with a small piece missing on the top.
Spine has little to no roll, but does have a taped label with a number from an overzealous orginal owner (we purchased a lot of his books - great stuff most, but apparently he was a 'super' organized kind of guy - numbered all his sci fi with little labels on the bottom of the spines). He also wrote the number in pencil on the inside title page at the top.
So, although the page edges look a little ragged, the cover itself is in much better shape, has minimal chipping, with one tiny crease on bottom corner and one somewhat larger crease at top corner.
